Adventure Ted Scholar Program

Empowering tomorrow’s leaders who have overcome pediatric cancer

The Adventure Ted Scholar program awards a $5,000 annual scholarship (renewable for up to 4 years; $20,000 total) and a 4-year internship with Childhood Cancer Society to an outstanding high school senior in New Jersey who is a survivor of pediatric cancer. This scholarship honors students who have shown resilience in the face of adversity and are committed to giving back to families facing pediatric cancer through leadership, service, and advocacy.

Application Deadline: August 1st

The selected recipient will be announced on Childhood Cancer Society’s Social Media Accounts on August 11th.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a current high school senior (starting Freshman year of college in Fall 2025) residing in New Jersey

  • Must be a survivor of pediatric cancer

  • Must have already been accepted and committed to attend a U.S. college or university in Fall 2025

Internship Requirements

Must be committed to:

  • Working with a team to host at least one major fundraising event per year (e.g., a walkathon or dinner, modeled after CCS events) as part of their internship at Childhood Cancer Society.

  • Join National Team Meetings on Zoom on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30 PM EST.

Application Requirements

1) Personal Essay (5 Paragraphs):

Respond to the following prompt in five structured paragraphs:

  1. Introduction – Tell us who you are and why you’re applying.

  2. Personal Story – Share your pediatric cancer journey and how it has shaped you.

  3. Perspective – Explain how the experience influenced your goals and values.

  4. Action Plan – Describe how you plan to support families facing pediatric cancer, be as specific as possible including actionable steps.

  5. Leadership Vision – Detail your ideas for your first fundraising event

2) Supporting Materials

  • Copy of your high school transcript (showing GPA)

  • Proof of college/university acceptance and confirmation of attendance for Fall 2025

  • Short description of your first planned fundraising event and related goals

Scholarship Terms

  • Finalists must partake in a 30 minute conversation over Zoom to discuss their application.

  • $5,000 per year for 4 years (up to $20,000 total)

  • Annual renewal is contingent upon:

    • Hosting at least one major fundraising event per year

      • The recipient will be on-boarded onto the Childhood Cancer Society team for a 4-year internship where they will receive guidance from the team to execute their fundraising plan. 

      • The internship requires participation in National Team Meetings on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30pm EST on Zoom. 

    • Remaining in good academic standing in college
